Being ME...

>> Tuesday, December 22, 2009

I've taken the path of least resistance - IGNORE. There are people around me - toothless, shallow, fake. They do not have an opinion of their own. Their opinions are based on the need to impress others. But I am not one of them. I, being myself, am attracting their hatred. The new lot mixed with a new one, throwing attitudes, scoffing and throwing tantrums. Ever since the new lot's come in, they have chosen to ignore me. AND THIS IS GREAT. What I planned to do, happened on it's own. Ever since they came in I've felt an immense disliking for 3 people and as the days went by it only grew from strength to strength n turned into hatred. No, hatred wasn't n isn't in my character. The immense hatred only comes once in a while when such characters surface. These occasions are a rarity.

All these negative characters around me I choose to ignore and have been successful too. If my ignoring them is not harming anyone, is not hindering anyone, and most importantly I'm happier ignoring them I think I should continue doing it. My need n my choice is to be happy. If that also means selfish, so be it.

Arrogance

>> Wednesday, December 2, 2009

While some people flaunt attitude on their shoulders, others carry arrogance around and there is only a very thin line dividing the two. While attitude is real, arrogance is not.

Let me out down a few situations so that you can decide for yourself what it can be classified into.

Mr. A calls another Mr. S and asks him the status of a feature development. S says it's done. A asks him to explain his solution. A disagrees. Says things like "If u can't do it, just tell me. At least don't waste yours and another's time." A few hours later, A calls S and shows his solution, plus boasts about it as how he simplified it and blah blah. A's solution is exactly the same as what S did earlier.

Then in one of our meetings one of the freshers comes up with his situation - his code has been overwritten by somebody and wants to know the reason how it could happen and how to avoid it in future. So a senior member, Ms.SK, says one reason it could have been due to "resolve using mine/theirs". Mr. A started off to say that is not how to do it. One should analyze the code and not simply resolve by using mine/theirs. What he said is right and neither did Ms. SK say that. What was wrong was the tone and decibel level that A used. That is not the way to talk to anybody and especially not in office.

Then today A calls Ms. N and almost blasts her (high decibel levels and high levels of rudeness) taking his own meaning for some bug and when he himself reads it properly after Ms. N asks him to and realizes his mistake, he grudgingly says sorry.

I would categorize all these behaviors by A as Arrogance. If he does not mend his ways Ms. N is going to give him a piece of her mind. It's not that she doesn't know to fight that she keeps silent, it's because she doesn't want to.

All excited... :)

>> Friday, November 20, 2009

We are just three days away from our first wedding anniversary. December 4, 2008 was the day we tied the knot, officially ;) The day the word 'freedom' found a deeper meaning :)

It was my wish to go on a holiday every year during the time of our marriage. And so we are planning a trip to Auli, Uttaranchal in January next year. Though the initial plan was to go there during December, we had to postpone it to Jan to coincide with Ayush's wedding. That way, we could have our trip as well as attend his wedding at the same time. We were planning to visit Shimla/Mossourie earlier but after some Google (re)search, we settled for Munsyari. Further research saw us chucking that n finalizing on Auli. I've been to Haridwar, Badrinath, n Kedarnath before but have only seen snow caps on the distant mountains. This would be the first time I would touch snow. I'm all excited :)

We are also having a family get together (hubby's side) in December. I've been trapped into agreeing to give a dance performance. I was thinking of doing 'Prem ki naiyyan' from APKGK. But that had to be dropped for some reason. The song that I've taken up now is a classical one n THAT I haven't learnt. I'm lifting all the steps from somewhere n I'm feeling bad about it. For that n for the fact that I haven't learnt it and will be doing it like an experiment. Anyway I hope to do justice to it. I've 25 days to practice for that. Excited, nervous, everything.

Pray all goes well with everything :)

Vande Matharam

>> Thursday, November 5, 2009

The Muslim leaders have come out with a Fatwa on Vande Matharam. Their side of the bargain is that it is against their faith; Islam can worship Allah alone. And in all this, the GoI is mum on the "issue".
I ask,
Dear Muslim Leader,
Who is asking you to worship anyone else?
Worshiping someone, or believing in any faith should be a personal decision n not forced down on anybody. I think that's what your Qur'an also preaches. So if you believe in your holy book, why not follow it on this respect too?
Aren't there other issues far more serious for you to spend on?
Please THINK. Then ACT.

Here's hoping that you take up more serious issues and resolve THEM rather than create issues where there aren't any.

Goa blast n the Sanathan

>> Wednesday, November 4, 2009

The Goa blast news was reported one day earlier this year. The next day Sanathan's involvement in it is accepted without question. The Home Minister of Goa openly n confidently states that the involved persons are part of Sanathan, they planted a bomb in a scooter n had it activated in a crowded place. One dies in the hospital n the other dies hours later. And all this only a day after the blast. They even said earlier that these people were involved in the Malegaon blast of last year.

What follows is an 'attack' on every Sanathan Ashram in Goa with people gate-crashing into the Ashram and creating a riot. There are some other groups which demand a ban on the Sanstha..!!

The news media is all jumping to conclusions n creating mountains out of molehills, reporting out of proportion facts, questioning irrelavant people, along with some fictional masala of their own.

Given these, what will you say? The intelligence bureau n the police got smarter and closed a case so fast ? Or is this some political vendetta by the UPA and some fundamentalists of the minority community* (news media n politicians calls them so; calling them muslims/christians or anything else is apparently an insult to them these days) ?

I say it is a political vendetta by the UPA.

When the home minister gives a statement like that, the police refuse that any investigation has taken place. They eventually find out that Sanathan has got nothing to do with the blast, n that it is innocent. But THIS news of Sanathan's innocence is not in any of the news channels. And it won't be ever.

The umpteen blasts by terrorists around the country is forgotten, 26/11 is forgotten, SIMI invovlement is known since ages but still no action is being taken on them. Whereas, when an injured Hindu person is found at the blast site, who happens to be part of a Hindu 'outfit' he is accused, the 'outfit' is accused, n eventually comes to banning it. Did they even think that this thing could be a planted bomb just to get Sanathan banned? For the people who came all the way from Pakisthan n ended up causing so much harm to our fellow Indians n others at Taj, n the Mumbai railway station, is it too hard for such people to plant bombs in a scooter?

Now coming to Sanathan, this is an institution, a sanstha, which works towards betterment of the soceity. It works towards educating the masses about the science behind every ritual we perform. For example, we perform a pooja by lighting cotton wicks dipped in oil and moving the 'aarti' in this n that direction. What is the significance of this action? Why do we need to perform them? What are the benefits of doing an 'aarti'? They also work towards stopping denigration of Gods by the masses. All these and such are explained in the different books published by Sanathan. They also have a fortnightly newspaper with lots of gyaan packed in it. Sanathan works for peace. Why would such a sanstha cause harm to the country n to the soceity? Why would they blast bombs n kill people?

The UPA can see that the Sanstha is bringing about some changes to the society and this is what the UPA does NOT want. If the society becomes intelligent, it'll no longer be able to fool them with lies and bribes. The intention of the UPA is to divide Indians on caste/community by calling itself secular. I say, there is no party more communal than the Congress (more on this in the later posts). I must admit they have succeeded in bringing about the communal divide in our country. Who is to blame for this ?

* Does not mean I am a religious person, I do not discriminate anyone based on their religion/community. I request all my friends not to take this personally. When I mention a religion, it'll refer only to the fundamentalists of the religion, irrespective of Hindu, muslim, Christian, etc.

On my DIY List - 1

Like I said earlier, I'm usually brimming with ideas. Such as this and this. We did have a Craft class in school but who really did anything then ?? :P
I hope to do these as soon as I get the time. Of course having no time is no excuse, I know. Putting it here so that I can remember them.

Ideas like these give me so many more ideas.
Like this one here - I was always thinking of doing something like it.

Some of these here, here, here and here are real cute. And these (here, here and here) give me ideas for something else :)

And there are more: cards, flower paints, magazine wall decor, onion paper, paper earrings, paper pendant, some deco, and so many more.

Will be adding more like this from the net. The original ideas I better post when I've actually done them. Ahem..!!

For my Earth...

>> Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Some things we do for the environment, some things we do for ourselves -

  • We re-use old bath towels for cleaning the kitchen counter, the floor and the scooter.
  • Old handkerchiefs are used as dusters
  • I do not use the paper napkins for drying my hands in the office. Instead I let them dry on their own. (My parents n hubby carry hankies, I can't bring myself to carry a hanky coz I seem to lose them time n again)
  • We wash our own clothes, wash our utensils, clean the house - all with our own bare hands :)
  • If the clothes aren't dirty or are used only for a short while, we use it once more n only then put it for a wash - saves water
  • We put off the tap when brushing the teeth, scrubbing the utensils n rinsing the clothes
  • We use fluorescent lights at home
  • We use two-wheelers for commuting long distances instead of four-wheelers. We use bike for longer distances because the mileage is better than the scooter
  • Our two-wheelers are tested for emission from time to time n they are under the acceptable range
  • We switch off the engines at traffic signals and during traffic jams
  • We don't honk, and sound the horn only when absolutely necessary
  • Earlier we used to pool our two-wheelers - we worked in the same office. Now we have switched to cycling - our offices are on opposite directions
  • Vegetables, pulses n rice are cooked in the cooker
There are some things which one of us (hubby n I) does, at the same time making the other follow - and that helps a lot in the long run, I think. Things such as -
  • Hubby tends to keep the lights on in the room that is not used. I remind him to put it off. Same when the TV is on n hubby is busy on the Internet.
  • I like hot water baths but hubby likes it warm. He mixes the hot n cold water n brings it to a warm temp for me to use later.
Some things in the pipe line which we have been planning to but were not able to till now.
  • Start a garden: one, for the obvious reason - environment; two, to reduce the organic waste that goes into the garbage can - it can go back to the earth instead; three, for the joy of gardening n living amidst nature.
  • Start carrying cloth bags or old plastic bags when we go out to buy grocery. It will reduce the usage of plastic
Hopefully people will see that it is not difficult to do your bit for the cause you believe in. We have done it n are doing it n will continue doing it. It's not difficult at all.

P.S: Read somewhere that Oct 24 is International Climate Day. Not that it matters to us. For us, every day is worth doing something for the environment

Celebrate Life... Celebrate Love...

I wanna shout out loud
And tell the world
That I love you more
With every breath
You fill my thoughts night n day
And make my heart smile away
A sweet pain of separation
Which is always there
Have I ever told you
How you make me feel?
Have I ever asked you
If I make you feel the same?
What with all the words we have
I fail to say how much you mean to me
Jus want you to know
That you are the reason I breathe
If I may give you something
I would give you myself
For no one can be
You, for me...

What i had been missin
Until now...
I believed u were created
To be mine
That somewhere, some time
I had wished upon a star
For you to come into my life
And I am thankful
To Him
For He listened and understood
He gave me moments
Which I can cherish
And be happy about
Jus wanted u to know that
I love u

I was just being me... :)

This was published way back in July 2006 on my site http://namrathabaliga.googlepages.com/. It wasn't updated after that except for 3 more pages during the same time. Re-publishing all of them here. All the work is original by yours truly :)

This was the first post, rather, an intro page ;)

I live in my own mad world...The world is exactly how i want it to be. No hatred, no jealously n nothing negative. Life's just cool. I live there with my loved ones - my parents n friends...all are healthy n safe here. I do not have to think before I do anything. I can be stupid... I can be smart... I can be everything I want to be... I can do anything I want to do... I can have solitude and I can have a party... I can enjoy... I can sulk... I can smile without having to answer why... I can cry without having any reason... I can relive the moments I want... and I can dream...I can think of places I have been to n places want to go... I do not have to answer anybody anything... I do not need to justify my actions to anyone... In my world I can be just me...No strings attached :)

Pati, patni aur woh...oh, oh, oh !!

>> Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Got to watch an episode of 'Pati, Patni aur Woh' yesterday. This is a dumb "reality" show that airs on NDTV Imagine at 10:30 PM, the repeat telecast sometime between 7:30 and 8:30 PM. I apparently caught the repeat telecast. Having read about this program and my friend Shweta's reviews, my curiosity was piqued. As I was browsing the channels I happened to catch this episode by chance. I managed to sit through the whole episode without pulling my hair. A few WTHs escaped my mouth in the meantime.

The whole idea of this show is to have celebrity couples (from Rakhi/Elesh to Juhi/Sachin to Ram/Sita of the new Ramayan - you don't know what to expect) to play mom n dad. They first get to take care of infants n then a few episodes later, toddlers, and so on till I don't know, marriage ?? Each of these couples get a house, they organize dumb games n pizza parties, dress up the kids in bizarre make up n what not. I couldn't help but wonder who on earth are the parents of these kids. Don't they feel ANYTHING about all this - about 'renting' their kids for some stupid program on some channel ? I could only sympathise with these kids. I'm sure they'd be so confused as to who these strangers are that behave like they do. Dumbest thing I found was the toddlers call their 'mom' n 'dad' of the show 'didi' n 'bhaiyya' !! How ridiculous !!

Questions that come to my mind are many -
What are the parents teachnig their kids?
Will the kids be watching recorded shows of themselves with some so-called celebrities when they grow up?
Would they love it or would they hate it?
Would they love themselves or hate their parents?
As for the celebrities, what are they learning, if they are at all?
Is one episode with one baby enough to teach them all the fundas of raising a baby?
Will they treat their baby the same way, coz then the video cameras won't be following them?

The worst thing was that the actual parents are oh-so-happy with how the celebrities are treating their kids that they shower them with compliments n best wishes. It got me thinking-
Are they doing it all for real?
Or is it just because they are on TV ?
Or did the producers ask them to ?
Are they still living without any guilt whatsoever?
Would they even be boasting about them being on TV to their friends, making new 'friends' AND enemies in the process?

I happened to read somewhere that the parents of these kids are claiming that they are doing this ('renting' out their babies) as a social work or something (not able to get the link :( ). WTH. In short this whole show is just stupid, or rather, bizarre.

This is all for now. Will be soon writing a post on reality shows on TV.

PJ Overdose...

I don't know what it is with me n PJs. I seem to be surrounded by them everywhere I go. The other day, for example was heights. I went to office. The stars there were shining in all their glory (samples here). I went home n hubby was in real high spirits n cracked some "ghanyare" PJs (To give you a sample: We read a board outside a laundry shop that said 'Computerized dry cleaning'. To which my reaction was 'How would they do that?' Hubby comes up with an explanation - 'They keep the clothes on the CPU when it is warm enough' to which my reaction was 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh'). Later that night we went out for dinner at a nearby place that started serving Mangalorean cuisine that day on. The waiter came up after we were done to ask how the food was, to which hubby replied - 'It's really good. Typical Shetty style.' What the waiter said after that made me pull out all my hair. He said - 'No sir, this is Rai style', and laughed. Would you believe that ?!!

Yes, I do need all the support you sympathetic folks can provide me in this regard. Please do not stop reading my blog. I promise I won't bore you with any more of these PJs. This post is my last on this topic :P
And don't be surprised if you hear me crack one of those - it's just the side effects of being amidst the PJ stars.

Colors of UPA : Why are Indians still sleeping?

>> Monday, August 10, 2009

This has been covered in the news channels for perhaps a few minutes and then forgotten. It was the 10th Anniversary of Kargil War on July 26, 2009. A parade was organized by the soldiers as a tribute to all the martyrs and others involved in the war. The entire nation salutes the soldiers, prays for them. Everyone is overcome with emotion and the government sleeps.

And then the defence ministry proposes a war memorial for our soldiers. But again the government makes excuses, and very very lame at that, about non-availability of land and statuory license issues. Click here for more detials.

WAKE UP, Indians. Wake up at least now.

PJ Kings n Queens... :D :D :D

At PFT, we seem to have too many PJ kings n queens, each PJ being worse than the last. This post is dedicated to one such lady - Ranjani. So here goes...

Ranjani alias Ranju once says on Facebook -
"I was so sleepy... But thanks to the tea guy, I'm fully awake now..."
To an average person this could mean a lot of things ;) Now don't you people think dirty. All she meant was that the tea drove off her sleep. And THAT tea is served to us at our desks by this guy who comes three times a day, everyday. Are we wrong in pulling her leg with this?? I think not. And if any of u do disagree, do we care?? :D Ranju still justifies this comment of hers as being "innocent", then again, do we care? :D

Another time she said - again on Fb, "Its 5 o' clock now. Time to be serious." She did not explain why she has to be serious at 5. And why on that particular day, especially.

And today's was the most hilarious of all... We are developing a cricket portal wherein one can search through cricket clips by entering many criteria such as batsman, bowler, shot type, ball type, etc. So Boss comes n says, "Madam, I'm not getting slow ball in the drop down for ball type. Can you just check why?" And this madam promptly says, "Well... Slow ball is more to do with the speed." And that was enough for the rest of us to get into peels of laughter.

Now, those who got it, welcome to the club :P
Others, you are the lucky ones :D

I thought I should start off with an intro of our popular PFTians. These names will come up more than once so u better be "warned" of them early on :D

Ours is a girl gang of 4 - Shwetha alias Shwe, Ranjani alias Ranju, Shweta and Namratha (me).
Shwetha is the leader of the gang. Well, not exactly. Actually we are all scared of her (what with the "connection" she has with the boss n all) and let her believe that she is the leader. Her usual lunch menu is chapathi n some palya/sabzi or chutney.
Ranjani: She is the undisputed queen of PJs. A post dedicated to her is already up :D. Her lunch menu is diverse - dosa, rice baaths, chapathi, avalakki, etc.
Shweta: She is not as innocent as she looks ;) She packs peeli dal, kaali dal, hari dal, masoor ki dal, n every other dal for lunch, ofcourse on different days :D
Namratha: Worries abt her weight all the time, laughs for anything n everything, does cry once in a while. Packs rice/curry to office, n sometimes pulao n chapathi/curry.

There are others too...
Sudhir: Well, not everyone knows of his abilities of cracking PJs, god, he is notorious ;)
Atul: Our manager. He is the king of PJs. His most favorite dialog is "Mere Karan Arjun aayenge..." God alone knows why.
Kranti: A lady who manages to get lost on the route she's taken a hundred times before. She loves to dress up, loves kids, can't read maps, worries abt weight, manages home/kids/office very gracefully and you could almost call her a "superwoman".
Chethan n Ajay: These two of a kind are the most wicked of the lot. Purposely burping, picking their nose, and pulling out chewing gum from their mouth are their favorite things to do; they thrive on our "yuck" and "pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez". Believe in healthy living and they "look" healthy too ;)
Ganesh: The big baas, the VP of PFT. The lesser said about him the better ;) Esp. during the recession times ;)
